Twelve staff from both hospitals - including surgeons, doctors, physiotherapists and a medical records clerk - took part in the 26 mile cycle ride to raise £1,000 to go towards the £1.6 million needed to redesign and refurbish the children’s unit at the Royal Hampshire. The refurbished unit will include single rooms with en suite facilities and beds for parents; a large day assessment area; a separate day unit for surgical cases and additional new consulting rooms.
The bike ride also marked the launch of Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust which was formed on 9 January 2012 following the integration of Winchester and Eastleigh Healthcare NHS Trust and Basingstoke and North Hampshire NHS Foundation Trust.
Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust consultant paediatrician Keith Foote, who organised the event, said: “It was great for staff from both sites to come together to mark the launch of Hampshire Hospitals and also to raise money for The Magic Wand Appeal.
“Thousands of children are seen and treated at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital every year and we want to make sure that we have the best facilities for our patients and their families. It is so important that we raise this money as it really will help to make a difference to children’s lives. All donations – big or small – will help us meet our target so please do get in touch if you would like to donate.”
