Clinical Health Psychology

We provide services at Andover War Memorial Hospital (AWMH), Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital (BNHH), Royal Hampshire County Hospital (RHCH), and Alton Community Hospital.

Our service helps people deal with psychological issues which are caused by or contribute to physical health problems. These include: managing pain, anxiety, depression and other problems in coping with illness and disability.

Clinical health psychologists in the Trust provide services in the following areas:

  • Chronic Pain – flexible self-management pathway including one to one and group based pain management programme
  • Neuropsychology & Neuro-Rehabilitation: Inpatient, outpatient, and community work for acquired neurological conditions
  • Diabetes Self-Management Support
  • Paediatric Psychology
  • Haemophilia
  • Early Supported Discharge (ESD) - for stroke rehabilitation
  • Critical care and Pseudomyxoma Peritonei 


How to find us

We are based in the Butterfield Wing at Royal Hampshire County Hospital, Winchester.

Our consultation rooms are in the Discharge Lounge in Butterfield Wing and in Outpatients. These locations can be accessed via the main entrance to the hospital.

How to access this service

A referral to the service can be sent via post to Clinical Psychology, RHCH, MP42 or via by any health professional.

The first appointment is usually within 4-8 weeks of a referral being received. This is a screening appointment, which ensures that we are the appropriate service to help the patient. The screening appointment takes approximately one hour.

We try to see patients known to the stroke units in Winchester and Basingstoke within a week of the referral being sent.
