Shaun - Portering and security co-ordinator

"Every day, in fact every hour is different. We are all small but important cogs that have to work together to keep the hospitals operating smoothly. It is extremely satisfying to know that you have played a part in helping to make a patient comfortable and reassured."

Shaun PickersgillShaun joined HHFT as Portering and Security Co-ordinator after a long career in managing events and shows. A change in personal circumstances led to him to consider the NHS for his future career.

Providing excellent customer care is Shaun's passion, whether that is for patients or his internal customers within the Foundation Trust. He tries hard to live these values and support others to do so too.

Shaun took part in a Schwartz Round - where staff from all backgrounds come together to discuss specific topics about providing patient care - to explain more about the role of porters. A lot of their important work goes unseen, for example they have received training in hos to support patients with dementia and all have mandatory basic CPR training.

In 2013, Shaun decided to continue his career at HHFT and has taken a new role in the Medical Equipment department, ensuring the wards have the equipment they need to provide care for our patients.
