Follow up appointments

When you attend your outpatient appointment, your clinician may decide that they need to see you again and you should be able to book a future appointment at the outpatient reception desk.

Alternatively, he or she may discharge you back to your GP as they may be better placed to support your future care.

For some patients, particularly after an operation, the clinician may prefer to give you the choice. If this is the case, he or she will explain this to you and suggest that, if you still have symptoms, are in pain or feel that you need to be seen again, you can contact the booking team to request a patient-initiated follow up.

If you are awaiting a hospital appointment, operation or treatment, you can now access the NHS My Planned Care Patient Digital Platform.

My Planned Care gives you advice and support while you wait and helps you to prepare for your hospital consultation, treatment, or surgery. This includes giving you information about waiting times and other supporting and local services while you wait.

This site, run by NHS England, is updated weekly and can be viewed by anyone, which means you, your family or carer as well as your NHS team can all see the latest information.

If you are looking for an update, please check the My Planned Care website before contacting your GP.

Please note, the waiting times shown on My Planned Care may vary at any given time. If you have any questions, please get in touch via the details provided on your appointment letter.
