Specialist interests

Dr Saich is a general gastroenterologist caring for patients with diseases of the gut and liver. Dr Saich underwent subspecialist training at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford where she developed expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of complex Inflammatory Bowel Disease (Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis,) and nutritional support of patients with intestinal failure and Coeliac Disease.

Dr Saich specialises in advanced diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy of both the upper and lower GI tracts (gastroscopy and colonoscopy) and undertake a range of procedures including: banding of varices, PEG insertion, NJ tube insertion, Argon Plasma Coagulation Oesophageal dilatation, emergency treatment of GI Haemorrhage, Oesophageal, Duodenal and Colonic stenting, polypectomy, and submucosal resection. She is also the endoscopy lead for the Hampshire Bowel Cancer screening centre.

Dr Saich works as part of a multidisciplinary team, consisting of dieticians, pharmacists, and specialist nurses to provide comprehensive care of patients who require nutritional support and is the Foundation Trusts clinical lead for nutrition.

Dr Saich is also the clinical lead for Inflammatory Bowel Disease. We provide state of the art therapy for IBD including immunomodulators and biological therapies, and have a direct access helpline to our specialist nurse for patients with IBD. We work closely with our surgical colleagues allowing seamless shared care of complex patients.

Dr Saich is accredited in general internal medicine and looks after inpatients with acute medical problems as well as gastroenterological diseases. She runs gastroenterology clinics at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital and Alton Community Hospital, where she diagnose sand treats general gastroenterological disorders including, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, gastro-oesphageal reflux, Coeliac disease,IBD, cancer andchronic liver disease

Additional information and comments

Dr Saich qualified from Guys and St Thomas Medical School with Distinctions in 1995, and trained at Guys, Lewisham, Hammersmith, The Royal Brompton and St Thomas Hospitals before becoming a member of the Royal College of Physicians in 1998. Dr Saich did her specialist registrar training in the Oxford deanery and undertook a period of research at the Royal Free Hospital in London before completing her training in Oxford. She was dually accredited as a Gastroenterologist and General Internal Physician and placed on the specialist register in 2005
