Security operates across all hospital sites 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Trust Security staff wear a uniform that identifies them as security and their main role is to patrol the hospital and grounds, prevent and detect offences, provide reassurance and assist staff when necessary. Equipment such as electronic door access control systems provide a secure environment for patients, visitors and staff and security infrastructure such as CCTV cameras and alarms systems are monitored by security officers. 

Our CCTV cameras are:

  • To protect staff, patients and visitors
  • To protect Trust premises and Trust assets
  • To increase personal safety and reduce the fear of crime
  • To reduce incidents of violence and aggression to staff members
  • To support the police in reducing and detecting crime
  • To assist in identifying, apprehending and prosecuting offenders
  • To provide a deterrent effect and reduce criminal activity
  • To assist in the traffic management and car parking schemes.

We take your security seriously so do not allow others to access secure areas

When departments and wards are not in use or visiting hours are not operating we may lock doors to restrict access.  Other areas such as children’s wards and maternity may have access restricted at all times and you may need to request entry via the door intercom at the entrance to the specific department.  Do not allow access to others through these secure doors, close them behind you and politely ask others to request entry via the intercom or to speak to staff themselves. 

What you can do to help keep people and property safe

  • Only bring essential items into the hospital. Leave all valuables at home or having arrived at hospital pass them to relatives/friends to take away
  • Protect your personal belongings and do not leave valuable items in your vehicle
  • Report all suspicious incidents/persons to staff
  • Confirm/challenge the identity of persons claiming to be staff who are not wearing a Trust Credit card sized  ID card

Respect for staff

Our staff expect to be treated with respect and should be able to come to work without fear of violence, abuse or harassment from patients or their relatives and any behaviour of this type is unacceptable. In most cases, patients and their relatives are appreciative towards those who treat them but a minority of people are abusive or violent towards our staff. We operate a zero-tolerance policy against violence or abuse and all incidents will be reported to the police for consideration of prosecution.
