We want to make sure that everyone receives the same high standard of care and can access our hospital services. If you have any specific needs, please tell your nurse.
AccessAble
AccessAble (formerly DisabledGo) uses trained surveyors to produce detailed access guides which identify issues people with disabilities may encounter when visiting a venue, such as Hampshire Hospitals. For further details, download the AccessAble app, available on App Store and Google Play
Interpreting, translation, and advocacy
We want all of our patients and their families to receive the support and information they need to access services, communicate with healthcare staff and to make informed decisions about their care and treatment.
Please tell your nurse if you need an interpreter during your stay.
We can also arrange for printed information to be provided in formats other than standard English. For example, large print or Easy Read.
Advocacy
Please also let us know if you would like an advocate while you are in hospital. Advocacy is a type of support service which enables people (such as those with learning disabilities) to speak up for themselves or to assist them with communicating their wishes.
Learning disabilities
At Hampshire Hospitals, we have a hospital liaison team for adults with learning disabilities. They can help you understand what is going to happen and support you to make decisions about your care. The team can also help the hospital staff to meet your health needs and make changes for your personal needs. If you would like to speak to a member of the team, please ask your nurse to contact them. Alternatively, you can email them at learning.disability@hhft.nhs.uk or telephone them on 01256 319892 or 01256 313096.
Mental health
Mental health support is available if you have any concerns about your mental wellbeing or that of your family or carer while you are in hospital. Please ask your ward nurse to contact the team on your behalf.
Toilets and changing tables
There are accessible toilets in public areas throughout our hospitals and many more in individual wards and departments. This includes changing tables for infants. At Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, we also have two changing tables for disabled children and adults with continence needs. There is one in the accessible toilet at the front of the hospital on B-level, and the second one can be found on G-level.
