McGill Acute Medical Unit

The unit provides a facility for assessing and treating emergency medical patients that either attend from their GP or are referred from A&E.

The unit has 46 beds and both male and female patients are admitted.

Level C, Nightingale Wing, Royal Hampshire County Hospital

Visiting times
Visitors welcome any time between 9am - 9pm, apart from 1pm - 3pm to allow quiet time for patients.

All inpatient wards at Hampshire Hospitals have adopted John’s Campaign, which allows the carers of patients with dementia to stay in hospital with their loved ones if they wish.

Infection control

In order to minimise the spread of infection as much as possible, we follow certain rules throughout the hospital:

  • Please clean your hands with the alcohol gel provided before entering the ward
  • No fresh flowers permitted
  • Visitors - please do not sit on patient beds
  • Restrict visits from children where possible

Visiting hours:

9am - 1pm

1pm - 3pm - please avoid visiting during this time to allow quiet time for patients.

3pm - 9pm
