A message from Martin Earwicker, Chair at Hampshire Hospitals:

"I am writing to share the news that, after eight years as Chief Executive of Hampshire Hospitals and over 20 years in the NHS, Alex Whitfield has made the difficult and personal decision to step down from her role later this year. Alex has made this decision in order to spend more time with her family and to embrace new opportunities.

On behalf of everyone at Hampshire Hospitals, I want to express our deep gratitude to Alex for her steadfast and compassionate leadership. Throughout her time with us, she has led with vision, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to providing the very best care for our local communities and to supporting the people who work at the heart of our organisation. Under Alex’s leadership, Hampshire Hospitals has accomplished a great deal, including earning a 'Good' rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC), successfully navigating the challenges of Covid, and opening new facilities for hospice care, cardiac services, diagnostics, and more.

Alex will remain in post for the next six months while we recruit her successor, and I am confident in the strength of our leadership team to ensure a smooth and steady transition. I will keep you informed about any appointments made or changes to our Trust leadership.

We will have further opportunities to thank Alex more formally in the months ahead, but for now, I am sure you will join me in acknowledging the impact Alex has had across the Hampshire and Isle of Wight system and wishing her every success in the future."
