Patients across Hampshire are set to benefit from more joined-up care, improved access to services and greater support closer to home as Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust publishes its new 2026-2031 strategy.
Developed with patients, staff and partners, the strategy sets out how the Trust will help more people stay well and experience care that is consistent, personalised and designed around their needs. It places an emphasis on prevention, improving population health and reducing health inequalities - helping people live healthier lives for longer.
The new strategy responds to challenges such as Hampshire’s growing and ageing population and the increasing demand for care whilst aligning with the direction of the government’s 10 Year Health Plan.
It sets out ambitions to work more closely with partners across health, care and community services to ensure people receive care in the most appropriate setting and closer to home where possible, with hospital services focused on those who need specialist care.
The Trust's plans also include strengthening specialist services, expanding virtual wards and community diagnostic services and driving research and innovation to enable adoption of new techniques and technologies. This includes making better use of digital tools such as for appointment booking and remote monitoring as well as to support secure information sharing so people don't have to repeat their story.
Alongside improving care for patients, Hampshire Hospitals strives to build an inclusive, empowered and future-ready workforce, where staff are equipped with the skills, tools and opportunities they need to adapt to changing healthcare needs. By fostering a culture where people feel valued, supported and able to make decisions, the Trust aims to empower staff to drive improvement and work in partnership with patients to design and develop services.
Sue Harriman, Chief Executive at Hampshire Hospitals, says: “This strategy marks an important new chapter for Hampshire Hospitals and the communities we serve.
"At its heart is a simple vision: helping people live better lives through care designed around them. Throughout this strategy's development, we listened carefully to our patients, staff and partners to understand what matters most and where we can make the greatest difference.
"We are building on the excellent care our teams already provide every day, while being ambitious about the future. By working more closely with our partners, using technology in smarter ways and designing services around people's needs, we can improve outcomes, experiences and access to care for our communities."
