The Organ Donation Committee at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - the trust responsible for hospitals in Andover, Basingstoke and Winchester - are appealing to families this Christmas and New Year to discuss giving a very special gift - the Gift of Life.
The appeal comes from Dr James Knight, Clinical Lead for Organ Donation for Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
He said: “This December, Hampshire Hospitals can announce that nine people over the last eight months received life-saving or transforming transplants from local donors.
“The transplant recipients will be seeing this Christmas with their families with their health restored. Organ donation is the ultimate gift. If you want to be an organ donor after you die, it’s really important that you talk to your loved ones and make sure they understand and support your decision.
“You need to leave them certain, and over this festive time is the ideal opportunity to discuss giving what is truly the greatest gift you can give.”
To give your Gift of Life over Christmas and New Year, you will need to register your decision on the Organ Donation Register online or via the NHS App.
This Christmas there are more than 7,000 people waiting for their life-saving gift including more than 200 children.
