Students injured in an incident involving a school bus this morning are being treated at hospitals in Hampshire.
Both Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust have received patients who were involved in the incident.
One student is being cared for at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital and a further four at Southampton General Hospital.
In a joint statement Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and University Hospital Southampton said: “The Royal Hampshire County Hospital (RHCH) in Winchester and University Hospital Southampton (UHS) were put on standby this morning, after a school bus collided with a railway bridge causing significant damage to the top of the bus.
“Students with serious, but not life-threatening injuries, have been taken to hospital. Four patients have been taken to UHS and one is being cared for at RHCH. A further 13 students with minor injuries have been dealt with at the scene.
“Services at both hospital sites continue to run as normal. We are working closely with our partners, and ask the public to use the NHS 111 service to help them decide whether visiting our emergency departments is the best course of action.
