Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which runs hospitals in Andover, Basingstoke and Winchester, has today (Friday 12 December 2025) confirmed a change to its mask-wearing guidance.
To help protect patients, visitors, and staff while there are increasing numbers of respiratory illnesses, including flu, in the local community, the Trust has introduced mask wearing in some areas of its hospitals. This decision follows an increase in the prevalence of respiratory illnesses in our communities.
Staff and visitors will be required to wear a mask in the following areas:
- Emergency Department
- Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC)
- Acute Medical Unit (AMU) and Acute Assessment Unit (AAU)
- Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) at Andover War Memorial Hospital
- Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital
- Wards with cohorts of flu cases
- McGill, Charlie’s Day Unit, Sophie's Place
- Maternity
The Trust regularly reviews its prevention and control measures and guidance to ensure that it is providing the best possible care for our community, continuing to protect patients and staff.
Please help by supporting as these measures are put in place. When coming to the hospital, please:
- Wear a mask in admitting areas where signage indicates
- Wash your hands regularly
- Use hand sanitiser stations available throughout the hospitals
Please avoid visiting if you are unwell with flu symptoms, vomiting or diarrhoea. If you need medical help but aren’t sure which is the best service for your needs, please contact NHS 111 Online or by phone.
Thank you for your understanding and support in helping us keep our patients, visitors and staff safe.
