Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust staff working across hospitals in Andover, Basingstoke and Winchester have been recognised for their outstanding contributions and achievements at this year’s Hampshire Hospitals People Awards.
The Hampshire Hospital People Awards, funded and supported by Hampshire Hospitals Charity, celebrate the remarkable and inspiring things colleagues and teams do every day to care for patients and keep the Trust’s hospitals running.
More than 900 nominations from patients, members of the public and staff were submitted this year, the highest number of nominations ever received. The nominations celebrated the achievements of colleagues across 13 categories, including inclusivity, innovation, collaboration, patient care and experience and leadership.
Finalists were recognised during a special ceremony at Winchester Cathedral, where winners from a range of clinical and non-clinical roles were announced and presented with their awards.
Sue Harriman, Chief Executive for Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “It was such a privilege to spend time celebrating so many of our brilliant colleagues and teams who work incredibly hard to support our patients, their loved ones and each other.
“Our people are the heartbeat of Hampshire Hospitals and having the opportunity to recognise their achievements was really special. A huge congratulations to all our winners and thank you to those who spent the time sharing their stories with us.”
Among the evening’s award winners was Howard Simpson, Consultant Emergency Physician, who has dedicated more than three decades of service to Hampshire Hospitals. He took home the Lifetime Contribution Award, recognising his significant contribution to emergency care and the lasting impact he has made on patients and colleagues over more than 30 years of service.
After receiving the award, Howard commented: “It’s extremely special and a real privilege to support and work with people and for people when they’re vulnerable, and it’s important that we never lose sight of that. It can be very difficult and quite upsetting trying to do that job, and there are times when you can’t always do everything as you would like it, but you hang on to the fact that it’s a really good thing to be doing and that keeps the flame going!”
The Hampshire Hospitals People Awards are funded by Hampshire Hospitals Charity, who support patients, staff and volunteers at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
