We are grateful to the Care Quality Commission (CQC) for their inspection and report. It is very disappointing that the overall rating of our urgent and emergency services at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital remains as requires improvement.
We apologise to any patients who have not experienced the standard of care we aspire to provide. We fully accept the CQC’s findings and recommendations and are working hard to embed sustained improvement across the department.
The CQC reflects the significant and growing pressures faced across the wider health and care system particularly in relation mental health patients, and we are firmly committed to improving our own standards of care in this area.
As the inspectors identified, the department is staffed by a team who are determined to do their very best for patients. They are wholly committed to providing the best in compassionate care and are recognised as working well with partners throughout the Trust and wider healthcare system.
Alongside the service improvement work that has been progressing over recent months, we are investing in upgrading the department itself. These improvements make better use of space, enhance the environment for patients and staff, and strengthen the provision of safe and appropriate facilities for patients with mental health needs.
