Statement following the publication of the Infected Blood Inquiry Report

Published on: 20 May 2024

Dr Ruth Williamson, Chief Medical Officer, Hampshire Hospitals NHS Trust said: “We are deeply sorry for the pain and suffering of the victims and families caused as a result of the actions of local NHS services during the 1970s and 1980s, and in particular those who were treated at Treloar’s School.

“Since Hampshire Hospitals was created 12 years ago, we have been caring for many patients dealing with the impact of these actions and know first-hand the far-reaching consequences on their health and every aspect of their lives, and that of their families and loved ones.

“We have done all that we can to support the Inquiry and have provided it with the historical evidence we have been able to identify.

“Today, services are very different and we follow NHS Blood and Transplant’s strict guidelines and testing to protect our patients and for some years have run a dedicated clinical service supporting patients with inherited blood disorders.”
