Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is pleased to announce the appointment of Sue Harriman as its new Chief Executive.
Sue will succeed Alex Whitfield, who will be stepping down at the end of October.
Sue has a strong track record of leadership in healthcare. With over 15 years of clinical experience as a nurse in the Royal Navy, she joined the NHS in 2002 as a Nurse Consultant in Infection Prevention. Since then, she has held a number of senior executive roles within the NHS in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, including Director of Nursing and Allied Health Professions, Chief Operating Officer, and Managing Director. She was Chief Executive of Solent NHS Trust for seven years, which at the time provided community and mental health services, before joining Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire Integrated Care Board as Chief Executive. Sue has also contributed at a national level, serving as Chief Operating Officer for the COVID-19 vaccination deployment programme.
Speaking about the appointment, Martin Earwicker, Chair of Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said: “We are delighted to welcome Sue as our new Chief Executive. She is a compassionate and values-driven leader. She brings a wealth of experience and a clear focus on working with patients, staff, partnership organisations and the wider community to deliver outstanding, safe care with excellent patient outcomes. I am confident that she will build on our foundations and lead the Trust into its next chapter; pursuing our shared ambition to be the best possible organisation for the people who work at the heart of the Trust and the patients we care for.
“I would like to take the opportunity to thank Alex for her exceptional commitment and leadership. She has made a lasting impact on our organisation and the patients we serve, leading the Trust with compassion, integrity, and a deep commitment to outstanding care and to the wellbeing of staff.”
Sue said: “I am excited and very proud to be the new Chief Executive of Hampshire Hospitals. I promise I will build on the strong foundations of compassion, integrity and outstanding care to lead the Trust through a challenging time for the NHS and in response to the NHS 10 Year Health Plan. Hampshire Hospitals has an important and unique role to play as part of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Integrated Care System. Working alongside our patients, their families and system partners in health and care we have exciting opportunities to reform how we deliver our services to meet the changing needs of our local population. I’d like to thank Alex for her leadership, especially her dedication to making the Trust a great place to work. An organisation is built on its people, and together, we can lead boldly into the future."
Sue Harriman will join Hampshire Hospitals in early October, allowing for a smooth handover with Alex Whitfield.
