Clinical nurse specialists are the main point of contact for patients. Clinical nurse specialists treat and manage the health concerns of patients and work to promote health and wellbeing in patients. They use their expertise to provide physical and emotional support, coordinate care services and to inform and advise patients on clinical as well as practical issues. The clinical nurse specialist nurse, who will support them throughout their whole cancer journey.
There are site specific clinical nurse specialist who care for patients with metastatic disease. There is also a team of SACT clinical nurse specialists who are contactable for all patients questions.
The SACT clinical nurse specialists work alongside the consultants and run nurse clinics for patients with breast, gynae, prostate, UGI, lungs and colorectal cancers. The SACT clinical nurse specialists are based on the day unit and provide senior presence. SACT clinical nurse specialists are able to prescribe additional medications as required in the event of reactions and side effects. The SACT clinical nurse specialists also oversee the training of new nurses on the unit.
