- The majority of our surgery is done in an outpatient setting (unless referred to day theatre). Please double check which hospital your appointment is at. Check in at the reception desk, take a seat as you normally would and a member of staff will collect you and walk you to the operating room.
- Normally, you will not have anyone accompanying you in the operating room (dependent on surgeon), but they are welcome to listen to the explanation of the procedure at the beginning.
- Your surgeon will explain the procedure fully, answer any questions you may have and ask you to sign a consent form if you are happy to proceed.
- You will have local anaesthetic injected into the site, so please have someone to drive you home following your procedure.
- You will be given written post-operative wound care instructions before you leave the department.
- Surgical clinics are held at both Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester, and Andover War Memorial Hospital.
- We will try to book you for surgery on your preferred site, but this is not always possible and you may therefore have to travel.
- Our surgical clinics are run by both doctors and surgical nurses.
- The doctor you see in clinic initially should be able to give you the most up to date waiting time for surgery.
- If you are booked urgently, you will be seen within 4 weeks. Unfortunately, due to demand for the service and the nature of what we are removing, you could need to wait 6 months or more for your operation.
- We will send you a letter with your results once they are available, or send an appointment to come back and talk to us about the results.
- We expect a result back within 6-8 weeks, but please contact us to chase results if you have been waiting over 8 weeks.
