The Lyford Unit is a nurse-run day care unit which provides treatment, investigative and therapeutic procedures and consultations to patients with a variety of long-term or prolonged conditions.
The variety of conditions treated on the Lyford Unit include liver disease, Crohns, chronic anaemia. Haemachromatosis, rheumatoid arthritis as well as respiratory & stroke clinics, and patients participating in clinical trials.
As a day unit, we are able to take over treatments that will facilitate an earlier discharge from hospital for some patients, whilst avoiding admission altogether for others.
Staff who work in the Lyford Unit have expert knowledge in cannulation and venepuncture, venesection and ascitic drainage. We are a small close-knit and supportive unit, where staff use advanced communication skills and work autonomously within a nurse-led environment to provide patients with an individually-tailored treatment plan.
