A new Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) is in place at Hampshire Hospitals, replacing the LIMS previously in use.

The 'go-live' week (13-17 October 2025) has now been completed with each stage of the process achieved successfully.

As Hampshire Hospitals sits as part of the Southern Counties Pathology Network – who are rolling the same LIMS out across all providers – we had been preparing for this change for several years. The LIMS links the requests made on the requesting system (ICE), with the sample in the laboratory and the result.

Please note the following key information and actions as we reach the end of go-live:

  • Please continue to consider whether a test is essential for patient care before requesting to avoid any backlogs in the lab.

  • Requesting through ICE for all test types can continue as normal.

  • Add-on tests for samples already received and processed are now available for GPs to request from Monday.

  • Postponed orders are being re-requested and managed by our teams, so GPs can continue to request these in the usual way.

  • Some old system test codes may still be visible within ICE – these will have ‘zzz’ at the start of the test name. Please do not select these. Instead, select the new test name which does not begin with ‘zzz’. Should you experience any issues in locating the correct test code, please contact Eloise.Clarke@hhft.nhs.uk.

  • The Pathology Service Desk and the issue reporting form will close today at 5pm, as we move back to business as usual from Monday 20 October. Please revert to your previous methods for raising any issues.

  • GP results will be shared every 20 minutes, rather than four times a day.
