The Peritoneal Malignancy Institute (PMI) Basingstoke is a national specialist centre for the treatment of certain rare cancers that affect the lining of the abdomen (the peritoneum).
We accept NHS referrals for patients diagnosed with:
- Pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP)
- Appendix cancer
- Colorectal peritoneal metastases
- Peritoneal mesothelioma
Unfortunately, we are unable to accept referrals for other types of peritoneal cancer, including gastric (stomach) cancer and ovarian cancer.
How the Referral Process Works
If your hospital team feels that you may benefit from a specialist review at PMI Basingstoke, they will make a referral on your behalf and send us the relevant medical information.
Once we have received all the information we need, your case will be reviewed by our specialist team at a weekly meeting called the Clinical Radiological Assessment Meeting (CRAM). During this meeting, experts from different specialties discuss each patient's case and consider the most appropriate treatment options.
Following the review, we will send our recommendations to your local hospital team. They will contact you to discuss the outcome and explain any next steps.
If the specialist team recommends that you are seen at PMI Basingstoke, our administrative team will contact you directly to arrange an appointment.
