Dr Fatima El-Bakri is an international medical graduate from the university of Khartoum/ Sudan. She completed her microbiology training in Wessex and was appointed as a consultant Microbiologist at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital in 2002.
She led the infection prevention and control programme between 2002 and 2009 and developed her clinical special interest areas which include management of antenatal infections, diabetic foot infections and antimicrobial stewardship. Her role included clinical and educational supervision of junior doctors.
Since 2009 she increased her involvement in medical education and training and took on Wessex-wide roles as Infection training programme director, deputy head of school of medicine and pathology and more recently associate postgraduate dean for support. Her associate dean portfolio included the professional support and wellbeing unit, differential attainment, EDI, development of SAS doctors and less than full time training.
She took on the role of director of medical education and associate medical director at HHFT in June 2021. Fatima’s vision for this role is focussed on early support interventions for resident doctors, enhanced supervisor training and recognising and celebrating contributions to medical education.
Fatima is a quality improvement fellow and an EMCC EIA accredited coach.
