Training and education:
Dr Irina Grecu graduated “Carol Davila” University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Bucharest, Romania in 1994 and trained in Anaesthetics and Critical Care Medicine in Bucharest, Romania (CCT obtained in Jan 2000). She moved to the UK in 2010 and was appointed as Consultant at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Trust since January 2014. She has previously worked at UCLH, Yeovil District Hospital and the Floreasca Emergency University Hospital of Bucharest, Romania.
Experience:
Dr Grecu is an Associate Fellow of Royal College of Anaesthesia and the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine. She is GMC recognised as Medical Educator and has previously been the FICM Faculty tutor for RHCH.
She is a member of the Intensive Care Society, European Society of Intensive Care Medicine, British Association for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (where she held different leadership roles for over 11 years, including membership in the Programmes and BAPEN Medical Committees).
She has previously been the Secretary (2002-2010) and foundry member of the Romanian Society for Enteral and Parenteral Nutrition (ROSPEN). She is a member of the European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism since 2001 and a member of ESPEN Faculty, a teacher for the ESPEN international courses (2003-2012) and an author and teacher for the ESPEN LLL programme since 2007. Her main areas of interest are ICU and perioperative nutrition.
Research:
Dr Grecu has a PhD in perioperative nutrition in major abdominal surgery patients and is the author or co-author of over 45 publications in peer-reviewed journals, mainly in the clinical nutrition field. She is a recognised peer-reviewer for multiple Pubmed indexed journals.
Throughout her career, she has been Principal Investigator in multiple studies, both commercial and non-commercial, NIHR Portfolio but also investigator-initiated ones. Since June 2024 she is the trust Clinical Director for R&D.
