James qualified from St Thomas’ Hospital Medical School in 1993 and trained in anaesthetics and intensive care Medicine in the Wessex Region. He spent a year of his training as a senior registrar at the Royal Perth Hospital in Western Australia before returning to the UK to complete his training. Having been appointed as a consultant in Basingstoke in 2004, he is now the clinical director of anaesthetics and critical care. His main areas of interest are: anaesthesia for major abdominal surgery (including pseudomyxoma) and orthopaedics, and critical care medicine.
