Support to be Smokefree

With our renewed commitment to our three hospital sites being fully smokefree, we know that this can create a challenge for staff, patients, visitors or contractors who smoke.

We want to support you to be smokefree while working on-site or visiting and we can do this through a range of nicotine replacement treatments.  You may even wish to use this support to quit entirely and take steps to improve your health.  We have a range of options, because we recognise that different types of support work for different people.

Why not swap a smoke break for a smokefree break and use the time to access one of the support options below. Or if you are a patient, speak to whoever is in charge of your care about nicotine replacement options.

To talk directly to a Smokefree Adviser, we will have in-person on-site sessions taking place from April or you can pre-book an appointment by calling 01264 563039 / 0800 772 3649 or texting QUIT to 66777.  For more information about the support provided, visit www.smokefreehampshire.co.uk.

To talk directly to a Smokefree Adviser, call 01264 563039 / 0800 772 3649 or text IQUIT to 66777 or visit their website on www.smokefreehampshire.co.uk  Alternatively, use their form to arrange for a Smokefree adviser to contact you or make an appointment.  All support is entirely confidential.

It’s never too late to quit.  Have a look through these self-help resources and tools to find the support that's right for you.

Vaping to quit smoking

Vaping is not completely harmless but nicotine vaping is substantially less harmful than smoking. It's also one of the most effective tools for quitting smoking.  See NHS Better Health to learn more about how you can swap to stop, or go along to one of our staff smokefree clinics (see above) and ask about getting a free vaping kit.

Stop-Smoking Aids

Willpower is important when you're stopping smoking, but it's easier when combined with some extra support.  See this NHS Better Health to explore the range of tools to help you manage nicotine cravings and other tobacco withdrawals symptoms.

Staff discount on NRT (Nicotine Replacement Therapy)

Throughout Stoptober (October 2024), our HHFT Pharmacy is offering staff a whopping 30% discount on all NRT, and a 10% discount from November onwards.

Free Personal Quit Plan

Don't know which option to choose?  Use this free Personal Quit Plan to find the combination that's right for you in 4 easy steps.

If you are a patient who smokes, please alert your ward staff and ask for nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) while you are with us. We can support you not to smoke while you are in our wards and on-site.

By not smoking, you are helping us keep our hospital sites smokefree. Thank you!

We launched our first 'Bin the Butt' litter pick at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital in November 2024, just as STOPTOBER ended. The aim of the litter pick was to make a start removing cigarette butts from our hospital sites. Find out how it went here

No Smoking Day - Wednesday 12 March

National No Smoking Day is a day dedicated to helping people quit smoking and promoting better health.

At Hampshire Hospitals, we are taking this commitment seriously. We are on the path to becoming a fully smokefree Trust, which means smoking is not permitted anywhere on our sites. This is a commitment we expect everyone to follow – staff, patients, and visitors alike, and we have on-site support available to help you be smokefree while you are with us and if you choose to, guidance on how to quit smoking for good. This is about protecting the health of our patients, visitors and staff, preserving our environment and leading by example in our communities.
