Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is celebrating the opening of a new Orthopaedic Outpatients Department (OOPD) facility, further improving access to orthopaedic care for residents across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

OOPD 2.jpgModern clinical spaces are a key feature of the new state-of-the-art outpatient building, located at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester, with seven consultation rooms – including a designated room for dressings – a co-located plain film x-ray service, four fracture clinic assessment booths and an adjacent plaster room all housed within.

The expansion of the Orthopaedic Outpatients Department supports the ongoing programme of investment at Hampshire Hospitals, which also includes the construction of a new Hampshire Orthopaedic Centre. The Hampshire Orthopaedic Centre treats adults from all parts of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight who require orthopaedic operations – such as hip and knee replacements – too, with consultants from both Hampshire Hospitals and University Hospital Southampton operating there.

OOPD 3.jpgBoth facilities reinforce the Trust’s commitment to delivering high-quality services aligned to the national 10 Year Plan, helping meet rising demand for orthopaedic services across the county and providing modern, efficient spaces for patients and clinical teams.

Sue Harriman, Chief Executive of Hampshire Hospitals, said: “We are delighted to open our newly expanded Orthopaedic Outpatients Department! This new facility further strengthens our commitment to delivering the very best care for our communities and, alongside our new Hampshire Orthopaedic Centre, transforms the orthopaedic offering at Hampshire Hospitals, enhancing capacity and supporting a more efficient journey through the service.

OOPD 1.jpg“Our teams and partners have worked tremendously hard to bring this project to life, and we are proud to see it now supporting improved experiences for both patients and staff.”

Dr Lara Alloway, Chief Medical Officer at NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight Integrated Care Board, said: “Our investment in the purpose-built Orthopaedic Outpatients Department at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital will enable us to care for more patients in a fantastic environment, which will improve the experience and efficiency of the orthopaedic services provided.”
