Clinical trials are medical research studies involving patients and are undertaken to help improve screening, diagnosis and treatments of diseases such as cancer.

There are a number of clinical trials open to recruitment across the trust in a variety of cancer types including breast, colorectal, gastrointestinal, lung and haematological cancers. Some of these trials involve drug treatments whilst others look at the role genetics and lifestyle may play in the development of cancer. All of these trials have undergone ethical approval.

Your consultant may invite you to take part in one of these studies if you are considered potentially eligible.  You will be given written information and an opportunity to discuss the study with an appropriate member of the research team. You are under no obligation to take part and should you prefer not to; or wish to withdraw from a study at any time this will not affect your hospital treatment.

If you are interested in taking part in a research study, please feel free to ask your Consultant if there are any studies that you may be suitable for.

If you have any questions, please contact one of the research team.
