There are three endoscopy units within Hampshire Hospitals.

We are open Monday to Friday from 8am until 6pm. There is a waiting room for patients to use during their stay. Patients and their relatives are welcome to use Peaches restaurant within AWMH which is open every weekday from 9am to 4.30pm.

Our unit comprises of one waiting area, two endoscopy admission rooms, one enema room with disabled facilities, two endoscopy treatment rooms and one surgical theatre for our ENT and Ophthalmology operations. We also have two recovery rooms and patient toilets.

We provide a day surgery and endoscopy service for both our local community and surrounding areas. All procedures are carried out under local anaesthetic and sedation (when required) for endoscopy only.

The unit is staffed by a multi-disciplinary team of Gastroenterologists, Surgeons, nurse Endoscopists, endoscopy nurses, theatre practitioners, and healthcare support workers, who will perform and assist you on your procedure day throughout your journey in our unit.

181113 - JAG accreditation mark.jpgOur Endoscopy Unit is located on level D Burrell Wing within the treatment centre at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital.

 The nearest car park is the Queens Road car park just by the MRI scanner entrance.

The endoscopy unit is open Monday -Friday 8am-6pm and we provide an on call out of hours service 24 hours a day and during weekends.

Our unit comprises of a shared waiting room/ reception within the Treatment centre ,

3 clerking rooms, one with disabled access.

Toilets and a disabled toilet within the reception area.

Male and female separate changing and waiting facilities with tv access.

4 Endoscopy procedure rooms

Male and female recovery bays with toilet facilities and nurse allocated to each area.

You will receive a procedural booklet with your appointment letter explaining your individualised procedure and detailing the care that you will receive. Please read this carefully as you may need to arrange supervision of yourself following your procedure if having sedation. Please bring this with you as it will contain your consent form which you can complete at the time of your clerking assessment.

We will ensure that your patient journey is as comfortable and dignified as possible and will be happy to answer any questions, allay any concerns you may have before your procedure.

Please telephone the unit beforehand if you have any concerns or require extra help for admission assessment and require any additional support.
