Maternity Services

Welcome to Maternity Services

At Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, we are proud of the high-quality maternity care we offer families at all stages of pregnancy, birth and caring for a new baby.

We support nearly 5,000 women a year, providing maternity services at:

  • Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital.
  • Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester.
  • Andover War Memorial Hospital.
  • And in the community.

As well as our expert midwifery-led care, we also provide an excellent obstetric model of care which includes specialist support for more complex pregnancies and health conditions.

Safety

There are many aspects to maternity care but we know the primary expectation is around safety - something that is an essential driver of the national Maternity Transformation Programme and the Maternity Incentive Scheme (MIS).

The MIS sets out ten essential safety actions annually and we are very proud that Hampshire Hospitals is one of 12 maternity services in the South East to have achieved all ten. More information can be found here

We are also very proud of a Care Quality Commission survey of our service users published in January 2024 which showed year-on-year improvements across the pregnancy, labour, and birth journey. Read more here

Our sites

We have neonatal unit facilities on both main hospital sites and work closely with other hospitals across the region to access additional specialist services, such as fetal and maternal medicine.

Teamwork is extremely important at Hampshire Hospitals. In our maternity division, staff from many disciplines and specialities work together to plan and deliver one-to-one care tailored to the needs of individual women.
