Sophie’s Place is a children’s day assessment unit located within Northbrook ward. It was opened in 2007 following a charitable appeal which was supported by the Sophie Barringer Trust. The unit accommodates the acutely ill babies, children and young people who are referred by GP’s, Emergency Department, Health Visitors and Community Children’s Nurses.
Patients are seen for:
- Blood tests
- Other tests
- Emergency assessment
- Urgent assessment
- Treatments
- Reviews
Sophie’s Place aims to minimise time spent in hospital and reduce the number of children admitted to Northbrook Ward, by providing a rapid access to assessment and observation.
After a period of observation the doctors will decide on what ongoing treatment is required for your child. The patient may be discharged home with medication / open access or be admitted to the ward for a longer period of observation. Open access enables the parent to have direct access back to Sophie’s Place during the time frame specified.
Sophie’s Place consists of a 3 bedded unit and 1 isolation cubicle.
Blood clinics for 4 year olds and younger, by appointment are held on
