United for smokefree Hampshire Hospitals
At Hampshire Hospitals, we are taking our smokefree commitment seriously. We are on the path to becoming a fully smokefree Trust, which means smoking is not permitted anywhere on our sites. This is a commitment we expect everyone to follow – staff, patients, and visitors alike.
We have onsite support available to help you be smokefree as an in-patient, an outpatient, visiting our sites or at work. This is about protecting the health of our patients, visitors and staff, preserving our environment and leading by example in our communities.
Our mission
To make Hampshire Hospitals truly smokefree, making a clear pledge to protect the health and wellbeing of everyone who comes through our doors and the communities we serve. We are committed to our sites being safe, clean environments that support healthier choices for all, recognising that our hospitals are places of health and healing.
Our aim
To lead the way in building a culture where smoking is no longer seen as part of everyday life on our sites. Working together with staff, patients, visitors and partners, we will make smokefree the clear, shared expectation across all our hospitals, communities and support networks.
We will
- Embed a smokefree culture across our NHS community, empowering staff to make healthier choices and de-normalising smoking across all our hospital sites.
- Increase referrals and improve access to smokefree support by enhancing cessation pathways for patients, staff, visitors and contractors, aiming for a 5% rise in in-house referrals.
- Reduce the burden of smoking-related illness through joint working, system-wide prevention efforts, and the delivery of effective smoking cessation programmes.
- Support all priority groups, such as pregnant people and their partners to quit, and support smokers from our most disadvantaged communities to quit by working with external partners to promote smokefree programmes in our hospital population.
