Introduction
This strategy sets out an important next chapter for Hampshire Hospitals. It builds on the care, expertise and commitment of our people, while recognising that healthcare is changing around us and that we must change with it. It brings together everyone across our hospitals and services, working as one team, around a shared purpose.
At its heart, this strategy is about people. It is about helping more people stay well, receive support earlier, access care more easily and experience services that feel joined-up, personal and designed around their needs, throughout the course of their lives. It is also about supporting our staff to feel valued, empowered, listened to and equipped to deliver the best possible care. It describes how over the next five years, we will maintain, improve and modernise services for the communities we serve and how Hampshire Hospitals will respond to the NHS 10 Year Health Plan.
To protect and improve care, we need to become financially sustainable and improve health outcomes for patients. This will require service and pathway redesign and new ways of working. Resources will be focused on interventions that deliver the greatest value and best outcomes. Some services may need to be organised differently, and not every service currently delivered in our hospitals will still be delivered there in 2031. Standardisation will be necessary where variation affects outcomes, resilience or productivity, so patients receive more consistent care.
Digital services will increasingly become the first option where they are safe, inclusive and clinically appropriate, and we will plan our buildings around how care needs to be delivered in the future, not how services have been provided in the past. Our priority will always be to make sure patients receive safe, high-quality care in the setting that best meets their needs.
This strategy has been developed through engagement with our staff, patients, families, carers and partners, ensuring it reflects what matters most to the people we serve and those who deliver our care. It has also been shaped by our understanding of the wider healthcare landscape, including national policy, changing population needs, workforce challenges, advances in technology and the financial and environmental pressures facing healthcare. It builds on our strengths while recognising where we need to improve and adapt.
Throughout, our values provide the foundation for how we will deliver this strategy, guiding our behaviours, decisions and the way we work together every day. Together, our vision, mission and strategic priorities provide a clear framework for the future, defining the difference we want to make, how we will work and where we will focus our efforts over the next five years.
Our vision is clear: Helping people live better lives through care designed around them.
Our mission is to improve lives by delivering safe, compassionate and high-quality care with our patients, our people and our partners, making the best use of our skills, technology and resources for the communities we serve.
To achieve our vision, we will focus on three strategic priorities:
The strategy is ambitious, but it is grounded in what matters most: better care for patients, better support for our staff and healthier communities. We look forward to delivering it together.
